There are now 72 bicycle friendly businesses across the state, making Minnesota second in the nation for this recognition from the League of American Bicyclists. The program recognizes employers for their efforts to encourage a more welcoming atmosphere for bicycling employees, customers, and the community, according to an August blog post from the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota.
People’s Food Co-op in Rochester won the prestigious and highly sought-after Gold BFB recognition. Minnesota Power in Duluth received Silver BFB recognition. Fairview Lino Lakes Clinic in Lino Lakes received Silver BFB recognition and Central Lakes Cycle in Fergus Falls, Minnesota received Silver BFB recognition. Additionally, two Minnesota businesses received Honorable Mention from the League, they are: Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Fergus Falls Area Family YMCA.
A Mayo Clinic spokesperson noted: “This award will hopefully put an important focus on the growing needs of bicycle commuters that go beyond the installation of bike racks. A key component of Mayo Clinic recruiting and retaining an expanded workforce for the future is taking a lead in shaping our community to embrace bicycling as transportation.”
